The Building Blocks of Black Inclusion at Work

 

Join us for an in-depth three-hour workshop in partnership with the Black Women’s Business Network!

Join Eunice Kajoba for this unique offering scheduled for Thursday, April 4th, from 9:30-12:30pm (PT) and hear from Pasima Sule on recruiting Black talent. You, senior leaders, or managers within your organization are welcome to attend this program.  

We anticipate this program filling quickly, with the program fully funded by the Workplace Opportunities: Removing Barriers to Equity (WORBE) project, supporting employers subject to the Employment Equity Act in their efforts to improve designated group representation in areas of low representation through partnerships and industry-tailored strategies.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop you will learn how to:

  • Identify and address some of the most common challenges faced by Black professionals at work in terms of microaggressions, stereotypes and tokenism.
  • Develop a greater understanding of the structural and personal impact of power and your role in uplifting and supporting Black talent through mentorship, sponsorship and active allyship.
  • Better advocate for change to processes and systemic barriers faced by Black professionals within the employee life-cycle of your organization including barriers faced in the hiring, retention and promotion of Black talent.

 

This will be a meaningful 3-hour session with a focus on sharing practical tools and resources, highlighting what leaders can do to utilize EDIB related practices to better support Black professionals.

Eligibility & Audience: HR leaders, C-Suite Executives & Managers in Canada’s Tech sector

Speakers

Eunice KajobaFounder and Principal Consultant, Monachopsis Consulting.

Eunice Kajoba (They/Them) is the founder and principal consultant of the equity, diversity and inclusion practice, Monachopsis Consulting. Eunice has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from York University focused on Organizational Studies. They have extensive experience working within the human resources space in a variety of industries but most notably in the consulting and technology sectors. Eunice is a highly knowledgeable advisor, workshop facilitator and public speaker to both internal and external groups at local and national levels. 

They combine their knowledge and experience of HR practices, intersectional frameworks and equity focused strategies in all elements of their work in order to help organizations achieve impactful and long-term success. 

 


 

Pasima SuleFounder and Executive Director,  Black Women Business Network (BWBN)

Pasima Sule (She/Her) is an entrepreneur and the Founder and Executive Director of the Black Women Business Network (BWBN), a professional network organization with a mission to connect, inspire, engage, equip, and advocate for Black Women professionals and entrepreneurs. 

With a rich background in technology, Pasima spent 18 years as a Software Developer and IT Project Manager at Chevron Oil and Gas Corporation in the USA, England, France, and Angola. 

Driven by her passion to increase the representation of Black individuals, particularly women, in the tech industry. Pasima is working on establishing a Black Women in Tech Hub. An initiative funded by Women and Gender Equality, Canada (WAGE) and recently featured in an article by WAGE: From tech consumers to creators - Women and Gender Equality CanadaPasima also serves as a board member for the  Centre For Digital Media and a  Council Member for entrepreneurship@UBC.
